This is extremely frightening to you and
also probably to your ferret. If you find out that your
ferret is missing, begin by checking it's favorite hiding
places inside your home. Next check places that your ferret
may not normally go. A sick or frightened ferret may hide
in unusual places. Once you suspect are sure the ferret
is outside, get your friends, neighbors and family to
help you search. Time is not on your side so don't waste
any time. hurry! Get a loud squeaky toy, shake his favorite
treat box or use a clicker if they have been trained for
that. You should also put out a carrier with food, water
and their bedding. Get outside and call your ferret's
name and look under sheds, woodpiles and any other places
that a ferret might like to explore.
Your ferret is unable to protect himself from predators so you need to find him quickly. Other concerns might be extreme temperatures and traffic . If you don't find him quickly, post signs with your ferret's picture or description and if possible a reward. Leave your phone number with neighbors so they can reach you if they see him. Be sure to contact your local humane society, or animal control facility, shelter, or local veterinary office to see if someone found him and took him there. If he is not there, leave your contact info in case he is later brought there. Be sure to call every day to check on him if he has been turned in. The same people might not be there everyday. Don't always assume that he's not there if they don't call you. Always follow up! Don't give up. Your ferret's well- being depends on you.
